Established in the year 1998. Presently running exclusive post graduation program in Biotechnology and BCA.

Realizing the need for greater opportunities for the student community, our college mooted this P.G. Center to offer higher study avenue.

The center is presently located in outskirts of Bangalore in Marathahalli. The approach is on the Airport road, 4 km beyond the Bangalore Airport. It is housed in an integrated educational complex of the Venkatesha Education Society, conveniently approachable both by public and private transport.

THE ACADEMIC FEATURES

Post Graduate Degree Course - M.Sc.(Biotechnology) course is of Semester Scheme of 2 years duration. University examinations are held at the end of each term every 6 months.

THE SCOPE OF BIOTECHNOLOGY

Biotechnology is termed as the science of the 21st century where gradual and subtle transformations of Science into technology can be witnessed. Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary subject with applications of science and engineering principles in different fields such as food, medicine, agriculture that are profound benefit to mankind. It is an applied science that has made progress in leaps and bounds in major areas such as Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, Animal Tissue Culture, Plant Tissue Culture, and Vaccines etc.

Major thrust of Biotechnology has been in the field of Genetic Engineering that involves manipulating the DNA leading to cloning and recombinant DNA technology. It has made it possible for us to clone animals such as the well-acclaimed Dolly the first cloned mammal. Genetic engineering has also helped us to introduce the gene of interest into an individual to help one overcome any kind of disorders.

The contribution of Biotechnology in the field of Agriculture is something which one cannot be unaware of. It has given us tomatoes that do not ripen fast and as a result have a long shelf life. It has also given us drought resistant varieties of wheat and rice, seedless varieties of fruits enriched vegetables. Well the list is endless.

In the field of medicine, food and health the significance of biotechnology is no less. It has helped to overcome many of the diseases by making it possible for us to have gene therapies, vaccines, diagnostic kits and so on.

Edible vaccines, a concept which could only have been dreamt of before is today a reality. Scientists the world over are trying to have the Vaccines for some of the diseases such as Hepatitis B by embedding the vaccines into fruits like apple, banana, tomato so one could avoid the painful process of injections. Efforts are also on to get vaccines in the form of body creams and lotions so that they can be directly absorbed through the skin. Soluble sutures which save the patients the trauma of suture removals, artificial heart valves and edible vaccines, biodegradable plastics, genetically engineered microbes to degrade animal/human wastes, have all been possible thanks to advances in biotechnology, a branch of science with great future. This branch of modern science holds immense potential for both research and career in the years to come.
