Technological University (VTU) came into existence in the year 1998 and
all engineering colleges in the state of Karnataka came under this
university as per VTU act 1994.
VTU has been
established with the objective to ensure and impart systematic
instructions, teaching, training, research and development in engineering,
technology and allied sciences in the State of Karnataka. Headquartered at
Belgaum, VTU has regional offices at major districts for smooth flow of
correspondence and effective functioning. The main objective of VTU is to
impart quality education maintaining uniformity in curriculum and
examination system throughout the State. Besides this, the syllabi is so

Significance of AICTE
All India
Council for Technical Education is a governing body established under the
act 1987, vested with statutory authority for planning and co-ordinate
development of Technical education throughout the country.
It formulates
norms and standards for degree and diploma institutions with regards to
proper planning of institutions, preparation of proposals for new programs
etc., and the norms set by the AICTE makes the institutions mandatory to
become eligible for approval of their programs.
Besides
setting norms for the institutions, it also sponsors for some of the
projects coming under MODROBS, TAPTEC and R&D Schemes. It is now
mandatory that all engineering colleges should be recognized by AICTE to
run their programs.
National
Board of Accreditation (NBA) an offshoot of AICTE has been formulated to
promote the educational institutions to go for accreditation of their
programs which is a testimony of their commitment to impart quality
education and standards.
