Features

Title of the Post Graduate Course
Master of Computer Applications (MCA) is awarded by Visveswaraya Technological University.

Duration

The course is of three years duration consisting of six semesters. A candidate will be allowed a maximum of six years to become eligible for the award, failing which the candidate will have to register once again as a fresher.

Attendance Requirement

Each semester of the course is treated as a separate unit for calculation of attendance. The minimum requirement is attendance to 75% of the classes in each subject of all the semesters.

Students who fail to meet this minimum requirement will be barred from taking up the examination. The student will have to repeat the semester to qualify for examination.

Award of Class

The candidates who have passed in all the subjects of all five semesters and the dissertation work of sixth semester will be declared to have passed the course and awarded the degree. The class will be awarded based on the aggregate marks of all the six semesters taken together.

  • Candidates obtaining 70% and above marks in aggregate in first attempt will be declared to have passed in First Class with Distinction.
  • Candidates obtaining 60% or mroe but less than 70% in aggregate in first attempt will be declared to have passed in First Class.
  • Candidates obtaining 50% or more but less than 60% in aggregate shall be declared to have passed in second class.

Internal Assessment

Each student shall obtain not less than 50% of the marks prescribed for the Internal Assessment of each subject, including seminars. Internal assessment marks will be based on assignments, tests or oral examinations and seminars conducted in respective subjects.

Seminars

All students are required to present seminars on topics chosen from the latest relevant fields as per the scheme of teaching and examinations. The performance in the seminars will be considered for internal assessment marks of the student.

The students and staff are encouraged to attend high-profile Seminars and Workshops.

Dissertation Work

During the sixth Semester, the dissertation work shall be carried out by each student independently under the guidance of one of the faculty members. Students are required to submit a report of the dissertation work duly approved by the guide which will be valued at the University. Marks will be awarded after valuation of the report and viva voice with the student by an independent examiner.

Eligibility for Passing

University examination will be conducted at the end of each semester. Students are required to score a minimum of 40% marks and aggregate 50% marks including Internal Assessment for pass in theory subjects. Students are required to obtain a minimum of 50% marks in Laboratory work, Seminar and Dissertaion.
