MEDICAL ELECTRONICS
Background Venkatesha Education Society / MVJ College of Engineering has a track record of starting new courses in frontier areas. To bring together the rapidly evolving areas of medicine & technology and to fill the vacuum existing therein, the MVJ Engineering College has recently started BE course in Medical Electronics. This is four-year degree course envisages producing a new generation of technologists who would think like doctors & work like engineers and create fusion of technology and medical science to ensure best healthcare systems for humanity. Scope and Importance Medical Electronics covers a large range of applications like diagnostic, surgical, drug design, artificial limbs, treatments employing ultrasonic, thermal, microwaves, RF and X-rays etc. fall in Medical Electronics field. People have even dreamed of doctor less hospitals run entirely based on Medical Instrumentation couple with pharmaceutical units. The healthcare systems, capable of catering to the six hundred crore plus global populations, have to depend heavily on Medical Instrumentation. With the rising living standard the the demand for well-trained Medical Electronics engineers bound to increase. Medical Electronics and intelligent instrumentation, robotics and programmed pharmaceutical units will one day be able to ensure good health to majority of global population. Future Prospects The Medical Electronics students will receive excellent theoretical and practical training. The theoretical subjects will cover major areas like concepts of human anatomy, physiology, medical signal analysis, imaging and image processing, information technology along with common subjects of Electronics and Communication engineering. The laboratory work will be carried out in Communications, Digital signal, Bio signal and Image processing. The students will have hands on experience in the Sister Medical College in handling and maintaining the latest equipments. They will do their projects on latest topics during two semester in collaboration with Industries and R&D laboratories like HAL, BEL, BPL, WIPRO, DRDO, LRDE, DEBEL and ISRO etc. It will ensure a good future for them and prepare them for a career in industry and research by developing the skills to conceive new ideas and design new equipments and associated software and maintain complex systems in large healthcare organizations. Current Trends and Developments The current trends include developments like operations employing robots and lasers, intelligent implants, ailment analysis tools such as ECG, EMG, MMR, Sonography, CT Scanner, Radiation Therapy and computer base eye diffractometer etc are commonly employed systems. Many new ideas employing concepts like DNA modification for disease cure are being explored by researches, which will enhance the capabilities of existing healthcare system tremendously. |
