A scientific and systematic approach managing projects is essential, in order to fulfill the project objectives within the constraints of capital, time, and resources. This talk is aimed at scientists and engineers who wish to learn and update skills in modern Project Management. The participants will gain useful exposure to systematic and scientific approach to Project Management.
In the beginning it is very necessary to look at the nature of projects, and to understand the need for project management. Then a systems approach to project management is described and the project life cycle is defined. At the same time, the basic concepts of project organization, roles, and responsibility are also explained. Next the talk gets down to the brass tasks of Project Management by performing work definition and responsibility assignment.
The quantitative techniques of Project Management include network analysis and project scheduling. We briefly touch upon problems of resource-constrained Scheduling, resource allocation, loading, and leveling.
Cost estimation and budgeting are very critical activities in project planning and are discussed in some details. Finally, this talk will highlight the need for project monitoring and control, including the use of variance analysis, and computerized techniques of Project Management.
