Background

IT revolution has been the most significant revolution after Industrial revolution. IT has not only revolutionized our work place, but has also eliminated the barriers of time and distance. Advances in chip technologies and communication media have increased the speed and bandwidth for communication, at the same time reducing its size and cost significantly. IT has made a huge difference to the way we live and communicate. It has made our life a lot better. IT is the new mantra of the new age.

Internet has greatly enhanced the impact of computers by revolutionizing the way transactions are processed. Internet-enabled applications like E-commerce, E-learning, E-Medicine have changed the scales of operation at a global level. IT is proliferating in to every field of activity and there is a new line of business triggered by IT enabled services. IT has shrunk the whole world into a global village and has removed geographical barriers in global businesses.

While our country could not exploit the power of industrial revolution, it is not lagging behind in harnessing IT power. English speaking, intelligent, hard working, Indian Professionals have become part and parcel of every IT related development in developed countries and are the most sought after. It is not surprising to note that most of the illustrious sons & daughters of our country figure in who's who of US, UK and Europe.

Scope and Importance

Realizing the need for preparing the budding professionals to face new challenges in the IT influenced world order, special courses have been designed, developed and perfected by teaching organizations backed by the department of Electronics, Government of India. Master of Computer Application is one such course, which is found to be very popular among those who want to pursue IT Profession.

MCA with a prerequisite of a basic degree and mathematics background provides the maturity and logical thinking capacity. The bias of the curriculum towards Industry applications reduces the preparation time required for an MCA degree holder to become productive in an industry.

Research has revealed that MCA degree holders are among the successful IT professionals within the country and abroad. Their ability to understand user needs and to convert them into applications has reduced the life cycle of development and implementation of applications.

MVJ College of Engineering, backed by the experience of imparting engineering education nearly two decades, has been running the MCA course for the past 5 years. The course is accredited by All India Council of Technical Education and is presently affiliated to VTU which is the only Technological University encompassing all engineering colleges of Karnataka state.
