in 2001, MVJ Medical College & Research Hospital is approved
by the Medical Council of India and the Ministry
of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, New
Delhi & Govt. of Karnataka. The institution is affiliated to
the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences
(RGUHS), Bangalore.

Understanding the critical importance of the study of Anatomy,
without which any study of medicine would be incomplete, MVJ Medical
College & Research Hospital has equipped the Department
of Anatomy with the best of resources: clean, well-ventilated
Dissection Theaters, Demonstration Rooms with the latest audio-visual
aids, a well-equipped Histology Lab and a good Department Library.
Our Anatomy Museum is one of the best in the state with abundant
dissected specimens and Embryology Models. The Department also
has a separate cold storage facility which can store up to 4 freshly
embalmed bodies for the purpose of dissection.
- The
Department of Physiology has dedicated Labs for
Hematology, Mammalian Physiology, Amphibian Physiology, Clinical
Physiology, Research Laboratory and Clinical Physiology. An animal
house with rabbits, rats and frogs, plus a pond for Amphibian
Physiology provides students with the specimens required for research
and practical sessions. Computer data on recent advances in physiology
is provided through Bio-Pac system attached to Internet. Separate
Biophysics Teams in the department do clinical investigations
like ECG, EMG, EEG, PFT, etc., referred by clinicians working
at our Research Hospital.
- The
Bio-Chemistry Department at the College is fully
equipped with the latest blood gas analyzer, auto analyzer and
other equipments which are extensively used to train students.
The Clinical Bio-Chemistry Lab, attached to the Department provides
round-the-clock diagnostic services to our Hospital. Our laboratory
participates in the External Quality Assurance Scheme (EQAS) of
CMC-Vellore.
- Excellent
clinical facilities, special equipment, a Museum with more than
600 specimens and stimulating teaching aids…the Department
of Pathology at MVJ Medical College & Research Hospital
has everything that a student needs to be future-ready. The 24
hour Laboratory in the Hospital provides diagnostic services in
various fields like Clinical Pathology, Hematology, Histopathology
and Cytology. There is a modern, fully functional, state-of-art
Blood Bank with facilities for whole blood transfusion and component
separation and transfusion.
- The
Department of Microbiology is equipped with appropriate
equipments like light microscopes, dark ground microscope, sterilizing
equipments, ELISA reader, laminar flow, etc. Audiovisual gadgets,
library and museum with numerous charts, models and specimens
are available for the benefit of the students. The Diagnostic
Lab in the college is run with a spectrum of investigations into
all fields of microbiology. The department also monitors the Operation
Theatre sterility checks and also is a part of the Hospital Injection
Control Committee. The department is on the process of establishing
RNTCP unit, VCTC center and a well-equipped virology laboratory.
- Pharmacology
- the scientific study of drugs - is a vital component
of modern medicine. The faculty of the Department of Pharmacology
at MVJ Medical College & Research Hospital has fully-equipped
Laboratories for experimental Pharmacology and Pharmacy. In addition,
there are two Demonstration Rooms, a Seminar Hall and a Departmental
Library. The Central Animal House attached to the Department conforms
to the CPCSEA specifications.
- The
Museum of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology
has a rare collection of photographs and exhibits. These include
weapons, poisons, wet specimens, toxicological specimens, skeletons,
bones, etc. All photographs and exhibits are neatly catalogued.
The department has a Mortuary in the Hospital campus. Medico-legal
Post Mortems are conducted here and the autopsies can be witnessed
by students from the Gallery. A separate cold storage facility
is also available which can store 4 cadavers at a time.

The Department of Community Medicine has four
fully functional rural and urban health centres, which support
the local communities, in and around a 30-km radius, with basic
medical care through periodic health camps. Additionally, students
are given wide exposure to national health programs through visits
to institutions such as the Family Planning Association of India,
the National Tuberculosis Institute, the Karnataka Health Promotion
Trust, etc. Dedicated vehicles are at the disposal of the Department
to meet the commutation needs of the students and staff.
